Welcome- Bienvenid@
I’m MariPaz, a Bicultural and Bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist born and raised in Chile and living in California for the past 10-years. As an immigrant, mom, wife, high achiever, neurodivergent, extrovert and recovering perfectionist, I intimately understand the overwhelming presence of the inner critic. Slowing down and acknowledging my pain felt unsafe in a world that expected more from me. My own experiences and education have encouraged me to focus my professional work on helping trailblazer teens and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, or adjustment difficulties during life transitions. I also have a background and enjoy working with couples and families, particularly during pregnancy and the early stages of parenting.
I find joy in helping individuals make peace with themselves and their bodies, reconnect with their strengths, develop self-compassion and create a meaningful support system that allows them to thrive. Specially, I love to support other women – including women of color, immigrant women, and LGBTQIA+ women – to live powerful, nurturing and fulfilled lives.
I have more than 12 years of experience as a clinician, supervisor and trainer in California and abroad.I hold a BA and MA in Clinical Psychology from Los Andes University in Chile, as well an MA in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. Additionally, I am skilled in Compassion Focused Therapy, trained in Early Childhood Mental Health and Perinatal Mental Health. Also, I often use techniques from Internal Family System and Emotional Focus Therapy ( modalities for couples and family work)
As a therapist, my primary focus is building safety and trust in our therapeutic relationship. I approach my work with honesty, compassion, humor and feminist perspective. Every story is unique, so Nanai Family Therapy is trauma-informed, inclusive, intersectional, and grounded in practices that aim to diversify psychotherapy and social justice. Moreover, laughter, mindfulness, and tears are all part of the therapeutic experience.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me. I am incredibly delighted to be here with you.
